With the athletics beginning on Friday, attention will turn to the track and field events in the Birdsnest stadium. The 100m final will take place on Saturday at 22:30 and promises to be a thrilling event. All the major bookies are offering bets on the race and thousands of punters have already placed their bets! There are three main favourites so heres a quick look at them:

Usain Bolt - 6/4 Bet 365

The Jamaican world record holder is the fastest man on earth a the man to beat in Beijing. He is clear favourite and many have tipped him to easily win gold.

Tyson Gay 2/1 Betfred

Second favourite is Tyson Gay, who won gold at the world championships last year. The American has had injury problems over the last few months and at one points was looking like he may not be fit Beijing. However he has trained hard and looks to be fit for event. Gay will have to be at his best however to beat Bolt.

Asafa Powell 7/4 Ladbrokes

Former world record holder Asafa Powell will be looking to beat national team mate Bolt, but has struggled to perform consistently this season.


In other events Britain's Phillip Idowu is favourite to win the Triple Jump. Idowu is the current world and European champion but wants to prove those who claim he's inconsitent wrong by winning gold Beijing. Idowu is priced at 5/4 to win gold.
