Coca Cola League 1 Betting Preview
31st July, 2008
League 1 kicks of in just over a week and the season promises to be a exciting, tense and tough campaign for all those involved. 24 teams will be aiming to finish in the top six to either gain automatic promotion, or to compete in the nail biting playoffs in June. Here at betting alerts we take a look at the promotion favourites to help you decide who to put your bet on.
Promotion Favorites:
Leeds United
Leeds were once one of the finest clubs in the country and were playing against the strongest sides in Europe. Currently they are a long way away from their former glory days and face another season in league one. The size of the club mean they will instantly be favourites to go up and on paper they should do easily. New manager Gary McAllister will be determined to retain his heroic status with the clubs fans by helping them win promotion into the championship. They have signed Luciano Becchio an ex Barcelona striker and look more prepared than ever to return to the championship after two season away.

Leicester
Leicester where relegated on the last day of the season and will be hoping to shoot straight back up to the championship. They are another huge club who have the facilities and funds to spend on new signings. Milan Mandric is still Chairman, but wants his team to be challenging with the best Premiership sides, and will no doubt be putting the pressure on new manager Nigel Pearson. Pearson has brought in Jack Hobbs on loan from Liverpool and Micheal Morrison to help his side try and win the league. It won't be easy but Leicester should be competing at the very top of the table.
6/4 with Bet Direct
Peterborough United
The posh were promoted from League two last season after finishing second and are surprise third favourites to win the league. They have plenty of financial funds and a ambitions chairman, manager and team. They also have planning permission for a 15,000 all seater stadium.
5/1 with Boylesports
Other favourites to win the league are MK Dons, Huddersfield Town, Carlise and Southend. Like the championship it's impossible to predict the winner with so many teams have the chance of winning the league.
Our tip:
Leeds (4/5 bet 365) finally have sort of stability, have a decent manager and a squad fully capable of winning the league. They have the fans backing them and will most definitely be competing for finishing 1st.
