Hungarian Grand Prix Betting and Odds Preview

30th July, 2008

After yet another sensational win for Brit Lewis Hamilton last round at Hockenheim in Germany, the Formula One bandwagon rolls into Hungary for the 11th round of the championship. The hot and dusty Hungaroring track is not known for producing superb racing, despite the changes to encourage overtaking in 2003.

Hamilton is nearly odd-on in the outright betting to be the race winner, after his recent form has seen him surge past Ferrari rival Raikkonen as the title favourite, into 4/7 from 6/1 at one stage just a couple of months ago.

Hamilton is best odds of 5/4 to win the Hungarian Grand Prix, whilst Raikkonen seems a tempting 11/4. Massa is 4/1, whilst Kovalainen can be grabbed for an outstanding 18/1. There is no doubt that Hamilton’s team mate has a car capable of winning the race, making this price almost unavoidable. Despite that, the Ferrari’s are incredibly unlikely to suffer the same fate as the past couple of races, when they were plagued by poor handling and tactical errors that led to them being uncompetitive.

Some tempting bets include Kovalainen to finish on the podium at odds of 9/4 with William Hill, where we know he will be competitive, with the odds showing good value. Button to finish in the points at 4/1 also seems tempting after his win at the circuit in 2006, where he will have fond memories of the circuit.

We will have a far clearer picture of what is likely to happen after the first practise, which will be the best time to do your betting, before qualifying on Saturday.
