Tiger Woods Makes A Return To Golf
5th February, 2010
Coral have slashed odds for Tiger Woods to make a return to golf and play at this year’s US Masters from 4/6 to 1/2.
This follows comments from the US Ryder Cup Captain Corey Pavin who is very keen to have Woods as part of his team at Celtic manor in October.
Tiger has had to take a leave of absence from the sport since allegations about his private life hit the headlines. However, Pavin thinks that the world number one will be back on tour in time for April’s Masters at Augusta and mentally fit to partake in the Ryder Cup.
Coral spokesman Gary Burton said: "With the rumours growing stronger that Tiger's return is imminent, we have seen plenty of money for him to make the first tee at Augusta, and have been forced to cut his price to 1/2. There is also a lot of interest in the 11/4 for him to go on and win it."
Despite online betting odds for Woods being priced at 6/4 not to play at Augusta, a report in Australia's Herald Sun newspaper suggests he could return a lot sooner than that. The Accenture Match Play Championship is one of the most prestigious events in golf, and was previously won by Woods in 2003, 2004 and 2008.
“We don’t know anything officially yet, but wouldn’t that be nice?” said Wade Dunagan, executive director of the Match Play event. “It would mean we’d get Tiger on his return two years in a row. Very cool.”
The tournament is set for February 17th-21st at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona.
